Return to Nature
In 2020, and throughout the pandemic, we saw several new trends in graphic design – the biggest of which, was a return to nature. With families stuck at home, consumers sought to bring the outdoors inside. There was a surge in the purchase of houseplants and of natural colors and textures in interior and graphic design.

That trend is holding strong and is predicted to become even more prolific moving into 2023 and 2024.

There is also a growing concern about the environment among consumers and so an emphasis on sustainability is evident in today’s design.

3-D Elements
Open-source 3-D rendering tools are more accessible than ever. For example, Adobe recently launched its Substance 3D Painter, which allows artists to paint in 3-D in real time.

3D graphic design advertisement
Complex 3-D textures that were once difficult to design are now easier than ever to render-even by beginning artists.

You’ll notice 3-D illustrations are being used in everything from print ads to TV commercials and aren’t likely to go away anytime soon. According to Global Market Insights, The 3D modeling market is projected to grow 20% annually from 2020 to 2026.

Geometric Shapes
One of the first concepts we learn in as children in school are geometric shapes.

Moving forward, creative geometric shapes and their meanings will become more important in design. Check out the new geometric box design from Swarovski Crystal.

According to Visme.co, we will likely see even more graphic designs inspired by clean shapes, geometric compositions, and bright primary color palettes in the near future.

Serif Fonts

Typically associated with authority, security and tradition, serif fonts are making their way back into prominence.

NYT serif logo-graphic design trends
Global communications firm Edelman recently published research that found brand trust is now the “make or break” factor in brand use. With 70% of people agreeing that trust is more important today than ever.

Exploding Topics cites that, to this day, major media outlets like The New York Times and The Washington Post maintain a Serif logo to reference their trustworthiness, resilience, and stability.
