From the artificial intelligence (AI) race to the ever-changing privacy policy landscape, tech companies like Google are constantly releasing new technology and platform updates, which seems like almost every week.
Here are some of the latest tech updates from Google that are worth paying attention to.
Google unveiled updates for its AI chatbot Bard.
With the release of ChatGPT from OpenAI, an AI chatbot, in November of 2022, tech companies have been racing to compete with software.
Google launched its own AI chatbot in March of this year called Bard. At the annual Google I/O developer conference, Google announced new updates for Bard. The tech company eliminated the waitlist for Bard and opened access to over 180 countries.
In addition, Google announced plans for visual search, allowing users to receive both text and image responses to prompts. With this new feature, users will also be able to insert an image in Bard and ask for a creative caption.
Third-party plug-ins are in the works, which could include ZipRecruiter, Instacart, OpenTable, Kayak, and more.
New details emerged about Google’s Privacy Sandbox initiative.
By Q1 2024, Google plans to deprecate third-party cookies for 1% of Chrome users. What does this mean for marketers? This change will allow Google developers to test the readiness of their cookieless products in a live, real-world environment.
While cookies have been a crucial part of digital marketing, they have proven problematic due to issues with transparency and privacy. Many marketers are aware the change is coming, but a concrete timeline could push them to find new tracking solutions sooner than later.
Google is testing generative AI in search.
The tech giant is beginning to test generative AI in search, signaling big changes to Google’s user experience, e-commerce feature, and advertising.
According to Marketing Dive, “AI is meant to take some of the “heavy lifting” out of search, answering not only the initial user query in detail but also offering follow-up suggestions and links while preserving context from question to question.”
This update is in response to Microsoft’s AI-powered Bing, which leverages ChatGPT’s technology. Microsoft executives say AI-driven Bing searches last almost three times longer than traditional queries.
