Holiday Shopping Starts Now

Just like in 2020, we are anticipating an early start to the 2021 holiday shopping season. Last year, by mid-October, businesses were already introducing Black Friday deals, and we predict this year will be much the same.

Consider promoting weekly deals throughout October and November and advertising an entire “Cyber Week” instead of just Monday. Starting earlier gives customers the opportunity to get their shopping done ahead of time, avoid last-minute crowds, and evade problems with shipping.

Shoppers will Keep Using BOPIS (buy online, pickup in store)

According to Radial, concerns about health and safety in 2020 forced many retailers to offer click-and-collect options like BOPIS and curbside pickup, but even with lockdowns lifted, the trend hasn’t decreased in popularity.

Radial goes on to cite the National Retail Federation and its finding that “BOPIS improved the customer experience for 70% of surveyed consumers by increasing convenience. And given that 90% of those surveyed customers are more likely to choose a retailer based on convenience, it should come as no surprise that BOPIS will be game-changers this upcoming peak season.”

Nostalgia will Continue to Play a Big Role

According to a recent Wall Street Journal article, consumers are wanting to make up for lost time by combining the missed holidays of 2020.

Similarly, Forbes predicts a renewed interest in going all out for the holidays this season, compensating for last year with a focus on decor, cooking, entertaining and more.

Consider how your brand can help consumers make this holiday season more special than ever. Find ways to incorporate “holiday magic” into your messaging and imagery.

It’s time to think outside the [gift] box with your holiday promotions! Our advice is to start early, offer convenient purchase and pickup options, and incorporate more holiday magic into the mix.
