USPS Exigent Rate Increase Approved

The PRC has approved the exigent rate increase.  This, along with the CPI-capped increase will begin on January 27th at 12AM.   The combined increase will average 5.7% for catalog mailers.

Disappointing as this is to catalog mailers; there is a light at the end of the tunnel: a two year limitation on the exigent rate increase has been set.  The PRC order states that:

“… allowing the rates to remain in effect indefinitely would result in over recovery of the financial impact of the Great Recession on the Postal Service. The rates proposed by the Postal Service will enable it to recover the lost contribution in less than two years.”
